Pre-Wax Skincare Tips: How to Prepare for a Smooth Experience

Did you know there are ways to prepare for getting waxed that will ensure you get the very best results and help your skin stay smoother longer? It’s true! Pre-wax skincare is actually a very important part of your waxing experience. Believe me, a little preparation goes a long way to avoiding early stubble, ingrown hairs and other annoyances.

First things first – got your wax appointment booked? Great! You’re on the right track. Now here are the things you should be doing in the days and weeks leading up to your wax:

Exfoliate Like a Boss

Time to bid farewell to those pesky dead skin cells! Exfoliation is your secret weapon against ingrown hairs. Use a gentle scrub (like our SMOOTH Exfoliant) a day or two before your waxing session to unveil a fresh layer of healthy, ready-to-be-waxed skin. Then get ready for some seriously next-level smoothness once you get waxed!

Drop That Razor

I know you’re eager to get rid of unwanted hair, but hold off on shaving for at least two weeks before your appointment. Waxing works its magic best on hair that’s long enough for the wax to latch onto. The general rule is to let it grow to the length of a grain of rice (at least ¼ inch long).

Say No to Sun-Kissed Skin

Although a lovely tan may be on your wish list, it’s best to avoid too much sun exposure before your appointment. Sunburned skin that’s still healing can be further irritated by waxing. In fact, our Waxx Specialists know their stuff and flat-out will not wax you if you have burned skin. If you’re getting waxed soon, stick to the shade and invest in a good self-tanner.

Avoid sun exposure right before your wax for best results
Keep the sun’s rays at bay and opt for the shade right before your waxing appointment.

Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize

… but not on the day of your wax! Yes, hydration is the key to healthy, happy skin. You should 100% moisturize as part of your daily skincare routine, but hold off on the lotion right before you come in. Excess moisturizer or oils can interfere with the wax’s grip on your hair, making the process less effective. Then after your visit, it’s back to your regularly scheduled moisturizing.

Timing Is Everything

Ladies, pay close attention to the timing of your waxing session. Scheduling your appointment for when you have your period can result in added discomfort. We all know how our bodies can get a little extra sensitive during that time, so it’s best to give yourself a break. However, if you do decide to come during that time, it’s ok! You just might want to take a few Advil or Tylenol beforehand.

OOTD: Loose, Flowy Clothing

On the day of your wax, ditch tight jeans or clingy fabrics and opt for your favorite pair of joggers and a t-shirt. After you get waxed, your skin will need to breathe, and no one wants to deal with chafing and irritation.

That’s it! Just follow these pre-wax skincare tips, and your wax will be perfectly smooth. But don’t forget about step number one: Book Now!
