Winter Skin Survival Tips

Help your skin survive the harsh winter

We’ll level with you: winter weather and skin do not get along. If you’re currently feeling all kinds of dry, itchy, and scaly, you know exactly what we’re talking about. While we can’t change the weather for you, we can share some tips that will help take your skin from drab to dewy in no time.

Cover up

Not only does bundling up keep you warm when temps plummet, but covering your skin with gear like gloves and a scarf will do a lot to protect it from the harsh elements. And yes, that includes the sun. UV rays can cause significant damage no matter what season it is, so don’t forget the sunscreen!

Cool it with the hot water

Ahhh, nothing like taking a hot bath or steamy shower after coming in from the cold… that is if you enjoy having parched, irritated skin! Hot water actually strips your skin of moisture, which is the last thing you need in the colder months. If you must take hot showers, keep them short and no more than once a day.

Moisturize to the max

Inevitably, your skin will lose moisture in the winter. It’s your job to restore it! That means moisturizing in the morning, at night, after showers, or any other time you get the itch (literally). Waxxpot’s HYDRATE Body Lotion is designed to lock in moisture, making it the perfect post-shower product for dry skin prevention. We also recommend our CLEAN Body Wash for when you’re actually in the shower, which gently polishes and cleanses without stripping your skin.

Hydrate from the inside out

Here’s the easy and obvious way to fight dryness: drink water! Your body’s overall hydration level directly affects the hydration of your skin. Keep that water bottle by your side throughout the day and trade in typical comfort drinks like lattes and hot cocoa for warm water with lemon or mint (it’s actually really good!).

Make a date to exfoliate

Using a gentle exfoliator once or twice a week during the winter brightens skin and helps moisturizer penetrate better. Another (dare we say better) way to exfoliate? Get waxxed! Waxing helps cellular turnover by removing dead skin cells, just like a typical exfoliator would do. Plus, you get the added bonus of feeling smooth and hair-free!
