Brazilian wax before and after. We’ve already shared Brazilian wax tips with you and prepped you on the pre-wax, well, prep. Now we’re baring all steps necessary to make your Brazilian wax last. Because I don’t want to stay smoother, longer, said one ever.
Brazilian wax aftercare, here you come.
How to Make Your Brazilian Wax Last in 5 Steps
Step 1. We’ve mentioned it before. And we’re saying it again: Do your prep work pre-wax. We promise we don’t mean to sound preachy. But these wax tips really are the foundation to ensuring a smoother, longer-lasting wax.
- Gently scrub and moisturize your nether regions the day prior to waxing. Note we said the day before—not the day of—and here’s why: Sloughing away dry skin immediately upon waxing can cause irritation. (Plus, waxing exfoliates your skin anyway.) And, applying lotion right before your appointment hinders the wax’s ability to stick properly to your hair.
- Establish the correct hair length for waxing. It matters, trust us. How long should hair be to wax? About ¼ inch to ¾ inch long. If it’s too long, trim it (carefully). Too short, wait it out. We know it’s tough once you start to see regrowth, but think big-picture (see step 5).
Step 2. If you want your wax to last, leave the process up to the experts. No DIY. Wax Specialists own all the skills: They know how to correctly apply the wax and the ideal (read: most efficient and successful) technique to remove hair from the root.
Step 3. Moisturize, moisturize…and moisturize some more. Sustain soft skin between waxing appointments by slapping on some much-important lotion. While you’re at it, exfoliate once or twice a week (provided the area is free of redness). Shedding dead surface cells help keep skin, once again, silky-smooth. Exfoliating makes the hair point up as well, prompting it to grow in the right direction.
So why else is soft skin needed? During a wax, dry-slash-brittle, rough skin potentially allows the unwanted hair to break off rather than ridding it completely from the root. When hair breaks off, regrowth appears faster. Not the look you were going for, we know.
Step 4. Don’t shave between your wax appointments. Tempting, yes. Beneficial, no. Consider this: Shaving will only create coarser hair. Plus, it causes the hair to grow in varied directions. (Shaving vs waxing? No contest; waxing wins.)
Step 5. Keep waxing. That’s right. Book your wax. We’re not just saying that because we really, really want to see you at Waxxpot (which, we, of course, absolutely do). There’s another reason we’re backing up the benefits of waxing. Regular waxing ultimately damages the hair follicle. Meaning: The more you wax, the lighter, finer, softer (sparser) your hair will get.
